Weather Resources

The main issue when looking to fly RC airplanes in the Columbia Gorge is WIND!  Following are some resources that may be useful to you in determining flying conditions.

Historically Fairly Accurate

    - Current Conditions -

        Hood River Current Conditions
        If West wind, then Hardman Field usually 20%-30% less than indicated at this site.
        Page-Down for animated satellite maps.

        Mid-Columbia Orchardists Weather Stations (IFPNet)
        For Hardman Field:
        1. Change Map to "HR Lower Valley"
        2. Average the wind speeds at Wells, ElkMtn, Goe, and Sheppard
          NOTE: These aren't average wind speeds, but snap-shot wind speeds that change from minute to minute.

        MOORE (ADCON)
        An alternative orchardists weather reporting system to IFPNet.  Moore is located near Pine Grove [MAP].
        Be sure to check the time and date on the page, as the data is not always current.

        1. Checkbox Wind speed
        2. Value for Highest Wind Speed = 8
        3. Location = Hood River (press "H" 9 times)

        The Dalles Aviation Weather
        The Dalles winds always higher than Hood River if from West, but gives an indication of trend that has proven fairly accurate.
